Dry-Needling and Electrotherapy

At SportsPhysioSA, all practitioners are skilled in dry needling also known as trigger point or intramuscular stimulation. It is used to reduce muscular tightness or spasm, reduce pain and improve mobility.

So what is the difference between acupuncture and dry needling?

Dry needling directly stimulates the target muscle and connective tissue whereas acupuncture, which is based on Chinese energy philosophy, focuses on specific ‘energy channels’ aiming to restore the balance between ‘yin and yang’ which facilitates the body’s natural ability to heal.

If you’re looking for relief from acute or chronic pain, muscle pain and tightness then dry needling may be the right choice for you.

Although we are predominantly a ‘hands on’ practice, we do have electrotherapy options where indicated: ultrasound, interferential and muscle stimulation. These modalities can assist with pain relief, tissue healing and muscle re-education.
